About

My name is K. Atkin and I have worked as a Basic French specialist and teacher-librarian for almost 26 years. I am currently employed as a divisional coordinator of library services in a school division in Canada. In this newly created position, I am fortunate to work with a dedicated group of both teacher-librarians and library technicians in forty public school libraries.

As information and communication technologies continue to evolve, we are witnessing a “renaissance”, of sorts, in our school libraries. With the arrival of the “read and write web” on the information scene, students are communicating with each other and learning from primary sources in ways that are very different from previous generations. The interactive and social culture of Web 2.0 tools requires educators to rethink how they teach and how students learn. In order to keep our school library programs relevant for 21st century learners, we will need to explore how these tools can support student learning on a fresh, new level.
